There were two purpose underlying this study.
One purpose was to compair the cognitive level with play level in autism.
A second purpose was to compair the play level between autism and mental retardation.
Subjects were 9 children with autism(23m-68m,M=39m)and 17 children with mental retardation(18m-78m, M=41m) The development test is consist of 7 subscales:grossmotor, fine motor, self help, social, cognition, receptive language, expressive language.
Play checklist is devided 14 steps.
The findings are below.
1.Congnitive scale was no significant correlation in other development scale. And play level was not correlated with cognition but language in autism.
2.Play level was different in austism and mental retardation
3.Play level was correlated with language, cognition and social in mental retardation.
